Summary

Appropriate for computerized accounting courses at the college and university levels. The new edition of this hands-on introduction to computerized accounting using Simply Accounting for Windows now makes it easier to learn the programs. The modular approach allows students to start at key chapters in the book by simply installing the appropriate starter files. Accounting theory is introduced as necessary to clarify important concepts. A comprehensive case (Overnight Delivery Company) leads students through the entire program, starting with the installation of the program in Ch. 2 and ending with year-end procedures in Ch. 14. This is a more detailed version of the case used in the previous edition, and incorporates the newest features of Simply Accounting Version 4.0. Paralleling this comprehensive case is another case (National Supply Company) which students can work through after completing each chapter of the comprehensive case. Solutions to this case are only provided in the instructors manual, whereas the solutions for the comprehensive case are provided in the text. Two other cases expose students to realistic business situations. DeHaviland Company uses only the general ledger in Simply Accounting for a large number of entries, while Canadiana Decorating Sales and Service Company provides a comprehensive look a t all ledgers in the program, including a major bank reconciliation.
Appendices introduce students to aspects of Simply Accounting that cannot be easily discussed in the main tutorial. Examples are Cash vs. Accrual based accounting, setting integration accounts, using dynamic data exchange, using the CA-RET program for customizing reports and statements, and using the comparative financial statement feature of Simply Accounting.
